Good question - what targets does CMake support? Seems like it would be part of the FAQ, doesn't it? If that would be possible or the documentation changes significantly I would switch to Bakefile right away a lot of those question's have been asked throughout the existance of wxWidgets. If such a tool would be available for Bakefile as well, one can create projects and set compiler options, libs etc in a much more easy way, and it would DEFINATELY help those people always battling with compiler settings and IDE's. For people who don't know this tool, it allows by user interface to easily maintain the setup script. If ABX changes this, and it allows me to generate makefiles, VS6, VS7 projects and works on every blend of OS (Mac/Linux/HP-UX/Etc) then I see no reason not to use it.įor the longest time I was thinkiong about making a tool for CMake like istool is for innosetup. ![]() Also the configurability where the user has a graphical interface, can do multiple configure runs would be a big plus for it. The back side is the documentation and lack of examples that show the real strength of it. This is in a nutshell the reason why I use CMake.īakefile has it's strength that XML is better readable and parsable (CMake uses a weird mix of COBOL and something else). When pressing OK it will generate the project type you select. this way the project can be configured the way you like it. When new flags are added during this config run, you need to set those (or press configure again). ![]() You can select specific flags, press Generate and it will process the new configuration. It has a graphical user interface which I find very nice. ![]() For example, you can let CMake find out of a piece of code compiles, if some options exist, where wxWidgets is located, etc etc. It's strength lies in the fact that you have one type of configure for multiple OS'es. In my eyes that was a strong argument to not use it (for now).ĬMake is more a portable "configure" tool with the possibility to create various project files. I looked into Bakefiles befoer I looked into CMake, and was put off by the lack of documentation.
